milescunningham ::: Favorites Your trying to say that the Rangers need to get pitching, but there was no big pitchers that we could have gotten for Tex. The Rangers were trying to get Clayton Kershaw, but the Dodgers would not give him up. The point is the Rangers took the best deal on that table, with many good prospects. Thats what the Rangers are trying to do, revamp for the future... 07-08-02 12:06:26 _____________________________________________________
milescunningham ::: Favorites So we should have gotten pitching? So we should have taken Joe Saunders from the Angles as a number 5 starter? It is called a rebuilding mode. We got 3 pitchers from the Tex deal including Matt Harrison who is a very good prospect. He just is having shoulder problems but was said to be there 2nd best prospect after Salty. 07-08-02 12:06:12 _____________________________________________________
milescunningham ::: Favorites You all don't know anything about what you are talking about. You don't know anything about the Rangers apparently, trying to say we should have gotten pitching for Tex? Do you know how big of a hole that would leave us without Tex in the lineup? Its people like you that just assume Texas only has offense. Have you seen a Rangers game in the last 3 years? Our offense is pretty much as bad as our pitching. 07-08-02 12:05:37 _____________________________________________________

bleacherbloggers ::: Favorites That does seem to be the prevailing sentiment among baseball beat writers. We just feel that pitching is their number one concern and to only get a couple of prospects (one with a shoulder problem) seems a bit less than ideal. That said, they did ask for Phillip Hughes from the Yanks, so at least they tried to address their serious lack of arms 07-08-01 12:41:32 _____________________________________________________
kgpittm ::: Favorites As a Rangers fan, I hate to lose Tex, but I think the Rangers got more than expected for him in the Braves top three prospects (Salt, Andrus, and Harrison) as well as two other pitching prospects. Salt is also under Rangers control for 6 more years compared to Tex's 1 more - and can play C, 1B, or DH. What more could the Rangers have honestly got in return for Tex? For the position he was in, I can't imagine Jon Daniels doing any better deal. 07-07-31 20:53:25 _____________________________________________________
bleacherbloggers ::: Favorites What the Rangers could have done is wait on dealing Tex until the end of the season and get a bona fide 1 or 2 starter. The Rangers do not need prospects right now. They need a leader in that rotation. Millwood is just collecting a paycheck. And when was the last time the Rangers had an ace come out of their farm system? Which, by the way, makes the opportunity for those prospects to go big league look even worse now. 07-08-01 12:40:08 _____________________________________________________
kgpittm ::: Favorites Name one 1 or 2 starter that any team in baseball is willing to trade for a year of Tex - especially one that doesn't have a trade exemption that would exclude the Rangers. And to answer your question - Chris Young came out of the Rangers farm system recently, but they traded him because they were looking for an immediate fix. The Rangers problem with pitching is they trade the players they develop and let them become aces somewhere else. 07-08-01 17:16:49 _____________________________________________________
bleacherbloggers ::: Favorites I don't doubt that if the Rangers were looking to get a veteran 1 or 2 for Tex they would have to give some other prospects as well, and maybe even some cash. The problem is not necessarily finding the 1 or 2 but more importantly having a rhyme and reason to the trades the front office makes. The front office has to make solid decisions about the way they are going to build a ballclub. And you would think that after years of futility they would have crossed off many "mistakes". 07-08-01 19:58:32 _____________________________________________________
kgpittm ::: Favorites The Rangers only have 3 options for pitching: Overpayment, Player Development, or Trading Away the Future. I personally like trying the Player Development angle since the other two have busted (Chan Ho Park, Millwood, Burkett, Eaton). A fourth option would be changing the Ballpark, but that's not likely to happen. 07-08-01 17:26:38 _____________________________________________________

bleacherbloggers ::: Favorites Well she may not have the same size head as Bonds (but then again, no human does) and is not a proponent of flaxseed oil, but she does swing a mean bat. She was a great first guest and it looks like we may lock her down for Friday's show as well. So stay tuned! 07-08-01 12:36:13 _____________________________________________________ |
