You may have some particular definition to distinguish a soul from a spirit from an astral form. But to me, and I think to most other people too, they are all one-and-the-same. They certainly were at the time these verses were written!
It is folly however to speak so matter-of-factly about things you can't really anything know about, and which no one has any reason to believe even exists, and that's exactly what Ecclesiastes was saying.

Ecclesiastes 3:18 is exactly like saying "humans are but animals"; and verse 21 does assume that animals also have spirits/souls/astral form/ "breath of life".

You're right. But he does not say it is folly to believe the spirit of an animal is not eternal. What he does say is that nobody knows one way or the other and as such he asks, "who does?"
This is entirely different than, "Humans are but animals. And some animals have souls too."

I never said he "explored" the idea of Hell; only that he left that as an option for animals. 'Actually' he is saying that we don't know anything about souls at all, and that it is folly for you to say that the human soul is eternal while the spirits of other animals are not.
