Description: In this edition of specie spotlight we look at the very popular white tiger (which actually isn't a separate specie of tiger.) White tigers are produced from inbreeding and they actually weaken the captive tiger gene pool and they do nothing to help real conservation of the tiger. Scarlohara ::: Favorites As far as i'm concerned, it's discrimination, just becuase you think 'they're doing nothing to help the species survive' doesn't mean they should be phased out completely. After all, not too long ago Americans and English people didn't recognise African people as equal and saw tham as having 'genetic defects' wich would 'pollute' 'normal' human genes and 'did nothing to help the species survive'. BigCatRescue ::: Favorites To compare a race of people with a tiger that in captivity is inbred so the chances of it coming out with white fur is sort of crazy. The VERY rare chance of a white tiger living in the wild is one thing. But what man does to keep its numbers up in captivty is simply cruel. himalayaleopard ::: Favorites Guys, think of it this way. There are not white tigers in the wild because they can not blend in and cannot hunt. They are exploited for money. We don't need to "kill off" white tigers, we just need to stop breeding them (which requires inbreeding, and usually results in deformed cubs) so that white tigers are what they should be, rare. 07-07-24 21:47:13 _____________________________________________________

Scarlohara ::: Favorites I'm not saying tigers should be inbred to recieve a cub with rare colouring. I'm saying no matter the colour or origin, all creatures should be treated fairly, that means white tigers shouldn't be 'fixed',just becuase they're white, and orange tigers shouldn't be discarded just becuase they're orange, and neither should be inbred becuase of ther genes.
